Heidelberg has a significant number of research institutes that are known for their expertise in specific fields of biosciences. These institutes support life-scientists who are not only biologists but also informaticians, mathematicians, engineers and experts from many other disciplines, who together constitute a large bioinformatics community. These scientists from different research groups potentially face similar kind of challenges in their day-to-day work and develop highly specialized bio-computational solutions to address them, however, they have limited opportunities to share their ideas and collaborate with each other.
Heidelberg Center for Human Bioinformatics (HD-HuB) is hosting an event series in collaboration with Bio-IT EMBL – Technical sessions with de.NBier and Bio-IT, in order to provide a common platform to the life-scientists in and around Heidelberg to network with each other and exchange their knowledge. We will organize this event periodically on various technical issues to facilitate discussions and opportunities for scientific networking in an informal set-up over drinks.
The general format of the event is to choose a technical topic every month in Bioinformatics, have 1-3 speakers present their experience and knowledge in a short talk, followed by a general discussion in a world cafe format (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Cafe).
